Our History

OUR HISTORY

In 1993, several Christian individuals and families came together to establish the church in Woodland, California. Prior to this time, these Christians had been meeting with other congregations in neighboring communities. They began worshiping together in the Senior Center located on Lincoln Avenue. Even though, they had no minister or song leader, they went ahead and rented the facility with the faith that God would provide for them.
Not knowing what to expect on that first Sunday morning, there were surprisingly 50 people who attended that first worship service. The men and women of the congregation took on roles that were new to them in order to worship as instructed in the Bible. Their service included singing hymns, preaching, teaching, remembering the Lord’s Supper, and the practice of giving, all in an effort to bring glory to God. The members of this newly formed congregation relied on each other and became a steady group of believers, coming together to worship God and encourage each other throughout the week.
Meeting faithfully, the Woodland church grew in spiritual strength and numbers. On a cloudy day in 1996, many of the members went to view a building that was for sale on Kentucky Avenue. They walked into the leaky building with broken glass windows, which left some of them feeling over whelmed and a little down. However, as they toured the building they began to see its potential. Realizing that they would need to do most of the work themselves to repair the building, they began to understand that through Him all things are made possible. Once again, the members stepped into roles that were unfamiliar to them and discovered working together became a beautiful way to fellowship and builds a kindred spirit with each other. It brought them closer together and gave them an opportunity to be even more committed to a permanent place to worship.

OUR CHURCH TODAY

Today, the Woodland Church of Christ meets in this beautiful building at it’s current location, where we worship and praise God. We look forward to the day that we have out grown our current facility and God leads us to another challenge in the Woodland area. We invite you to join our fellowship and our venture into the future praising, glorifying, and honoring the God of Heaven that has brought us to this place and time.
